Oakley Set to Increase Prescription Sunglasses Limit
Oakley prescription sunglasses may soon be available to athletes who are currently outside the Oakley prescription limits. New digital lens technology is believed to be the reason Oakley is increasing their prescription limit from -3.00 to -6.00.

Oakley Prescription Sunglasses often feature a wrapped sports design. This protects athletes from UV rays and provides a larger field of vision. But prescription lenses in these wrapped frames have historically created a distortion that is referred to as a “fishbowl effect.” The Oakley True Digital lenses fixed this by recalculating the prescription at every point on the lens. This provides clear vision throughout the lens without the peripheral distortions that were inevitable with the previously technology.
ADS Sports Eyewear has sold Prescription Oakley Sunglasses for several years. The Oakley True Digital technology was a welcome improvement, but the long-standing Oakley prescription limits were not immediately increased with the introduction of this new lens design. While ADS Sports Eyewear has discussed this expected change with several people at Oakley, there has been no official announcement. The launch date for these new prescription limits is clearly difficult to predict. Our sources at Oakley have estimated this launch date to be anywhere between June 1st and December of this year. ADS Sports Eyewear is currently accepting pre-orders from people who are willing to wait for this undefined amount of time. These people will be at the front of the line when these lenses are available.
