Info Security Leader Larry Brock to Provide In-Depth Insight on How to Protect Intellectual Property Against Insider and Cyber Threat
Businesses and government agencies with valuable intellectual property and other sensitive data can protect their assets from insider and cyber threats during a free live webinar, “Operationalizing a Cyber Threat Defense Program,” to be held May 22, 2013, at 9:00 am ET/2:00 pm GMT and 1:00 pm ET.
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) May 14, 2013
Larry Brock, former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at DuPont and widely recognized as one of the top security professionals in any industry, will provide an in-depth tutorial on how businesses and government agencies with valuable intellectual property and other sensitive data can protect their assets from insider and cyber threats during a free live webinar, “Operationalizing a Cyber Threat Defense Program,” to be held May 22, 2013, at 9:00 am ET/2:00 pm GMT and 1:00 pm ET. The event is sponsored by Verdasys, provider of Enterprise Information Protection (EIP) solutions and managed services for Global 2000 and mid-sized companies. Attendees can register free at: http://www2.verdasys.com/l/17352/2013-04-25/8d6pr
Brock is president of Brock Cyber Consulting and an expert on designing effective strategies for detecting, preventing, containing and investigating advanced cyber attacks. He was with DuPont for more than 30 years, most recently as CISO, and previously served as Information Security Officer within the U.S. Air Force assigned to the National Security Agency. Brock advocates a “kill chain defense” strategy to guard against cyber threats, employed most effectively by gathering and correlating data from all possible stages of a cyber attack and then deploying effective defensive controls to the stages where the attack is most vulnerable. “We’re seeing a shift in how organizations are approaching security from a position of just keeping the bad guys out to one of keeping valuables from leaving,” says Brock. “All companies with valuable IP should assume both insider and cyber threats are targeting them, and recognize that the executive team must take ownership and drive actions to ensure trade secret protection.”
Brock warns that a continued focus on legacy security controls and a “fortress mentality” are insufficient for today’s threats, and that organizations cannot rely on technology alone, but must combine technical controls with proper leadership, education, awareness, policies and classifications within a holistic, continually improving program. Additionally, organizations of all sizes can fight against increasingly capable adversaries by collaborating with leading companies that are high on the IP protection learning curve, as well as those service providers with the experience to provide actionable intelligence. Brock’s presentation will cover practical information such as how organizations can:
- design a cyber threat defense program with clear strategies for program ownership, executive sponsorship, and deliverables
- educate and build awareness within the organization about insider threats, cyber threats and nation-state espionage
- identify and provide strong controls over key intellectual property and other sensitive information on premise and in cloud services
- develop a comprehensive threat detection and analysis capability and identify cyber threat techniques, procedures and indicators of compromise
- restrict exfiltration of sensitive information by cyber attacks
