Hixenbaugh Ancient Art Announces Its 2013 Annual Brochure is Now Available
Hixenbaugh Ancient Art´s 7th annual brochure is now available.
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 16, 2013
Hixenbaugh Ancient Art´s 2013 brochure/catalog is available for interested collectors. The 7th annual brochure includes a representative sample of art from a variety of ancient cultures. Included among the various antiquities in the catalog is a Roman Marble depicting the unfortunate satyr Marsyas.
The ancient Roman marble is the upper section of a trapezophoros, an ornate table leg, in the form of the satyr Marsyas bound to a tree. In ancient Greek myth, the Satyr Marsyas was the central figure in two myths involving hubris and the Gods. In one version, Marsyas offended Athena after finding and then playing her double flute or aulos. In the other myth, Marsyas challenged Apollo to a contest of flute-playing and played so well that he enraged the god. Both versions end with Marsyas tied to a tree and flayed alive for his hubris.
The brochure also includes an early Greek Geometric Amphora, several ancient Greek Helmets, Egyptian Bronze Statues of Ptah and Anubis, an Egyptian Ushabti and an Amarna period vase.
Anyone interested in receiving a copy of the catalog should contact the Gallery, by phone (212-861-9743) or via email [info(at)hixenbaugh(dot)net]. This Roman Marble Trapezophoros as well as many other items are available at our New York gallery (Tuesday — Saturday, 11am — 6pm) and can be viewed on our web site (http://www.hixenbaugh.net).

At Hixenbaugh Ancient Art, we believe that responsible collecting of antiquities is not only a pleasurable pursuit and wise investment, but an important responsibility. Today’s collectors are custodians of the past, links in a chain, preserving the past for future generations by passing their collections on to their heirs, reselling them to eager collectors, or donating them to museums. In doing so, the collector of ancient art reaps the many benefits of acquiring truly unique and thought provoking objects that have come down to us from the ancients, whose influences pervade every aspect of the modern world.
