EscapeGrid.com Connects Tech-Overloaded to Nature
EscapeGrid.com launches a website connecting technology-overloaded urban dwellers to outdoors escapes.
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) May 29, 2013
EscapeGrid.com announces the launch of its outdoors get-away listing site. The grassroots website will offer listings of rural and remote escapes, outdoors services, lodging, and adventures. EscapeGrid.com aims to connect technology-overloaded urban dwellers to nature and outdoors experiences.
EscapeGrid allows rural businesses, individuals, family-run operations, and parks/non-profits to list their services for anyone wanting to get out. “We wanted to connect the urban to the rural, and create a community of people who want to get away from computer screens and crowded cities — even for just a while. There is definitely a growing backlash to technology and a need to disconnect,” says founder Dr. Peter Wegner.
℠Escapes´ from Technology in the Outdoors
Types of ℠escapes´ on the listing site will include: camping, fishing, RV-related, boating, hiking, snow-sports, kayaking, lodging (non-franchise), and more. “There are plenty of commercial vacation listings and travel sites on the web, but not much in the way of listings of rural vacation and outdoor sporting services run by individuals, families, and small businesses,” adds founder Dr. Peter Wegner. EscapeGrid aims to bring these grassroots types of services into one place.
EscapeGrid.com is organized into countries and regions with an initial push on getting listings and users in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The site also handles reservations, contacts, and listing calendars. Anyone who lists can create an account to manage their escape listings. Users can search and make reservations for ℠escapes´ through the site. EscapeGrid plans to donate a percentage of its annual profits to nature preservation efforts as a way to give back. The site is launching its beta-phase by offering a free 90-day listing incentive for all listings until July 15, 2013 and will charge a monthly listing fee after that.
EscapeGrid is a US-Canadian partnership. The founders of the site are two brothers: Dr. Peter Wegner of Tempe, Arizona and Kurt Wegner of Port Hope, Ontario. Both are avid outdoorsmen, hikers, and mountain climbing enthusiasts. The company is currently run out of Skysong Innovation Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, and an office in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. Peter Wegner is also founder of an education technology startup called Mercury Innovative, and has been a part of Arizona State University´s Edson Student Entrepreneurship Initiative for the past two years. The program provides seed funding, mentorship, and office space for high-potential student entrepreneurs. Peter Wegner received his PhD in Rhetoric & Linguistics from Arizona State University in May and also teaches at the university.
