YouTube Unblocker from idcloak Sends Message to Censors
idcloak releases a YouTube unblocker to open a door to the media site for censored netizens, and another to dialogue with the censors themselves.
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) June 04, 2013
A small Dallas internet services company has published the largest list of censorship circumvention addresses online. idcloak Technologies´ YouTube Unblocker list connects users to selected public proxies capable of discretely and effectively bypassing blocks on YouTube, the third most visited site in the world. Proxy surfers, as circumventing users are sometimes called, have full and unrestricted access to all videos on the site even when its URL is blocked in their country. “YouTube is currently blocked in four countries around the world, with certain pages of the site unavailable in many more,” says Gill-Chris Welles, senior tech writer at idcloak. “YouTube has shown itself to have enormous value in driving social change, which undeniably makes this kind of censorship an act of political repression.”
idcloak Technologies´ innovation lies not in the proxies themselves but in how information about them is sourced, managed and presented. “We source the proxies from public groups around the world and then sort them by specific criteria relating to the job at hand. A YouTube unblock proxy should be fast enough to carry video data, but also be encrypted so web censors cannot observe and stop the unblocking process. The encryption of HTTPS proxies is sufficient to hide proxy activity between the device and proxy server even against the most advanced forms of web filtering.”
The list is fully operational with immediate effect, but Welles hopes it will open more than a door to the YouTube site; he hopes it will open up dialogue between government censors and the international community. “Whether it is the US, Syria or China, political censorship of the net needs to be challenged. If you just stand up and say that political censorship is wrong, no one will listen. But if you distribute tools to break down that censorship, then you have people´s attention. Say it´s wrong now and you have yourself a dialogue.”
idcloak Technologies has several anti-censorship releases scheduled for 2013 release. For more information on the company´s work in the field of web freedom, privacy or security, visit http://www.idcloak.com.
