Britannica School, the new online knowledge and information solution from Britannica Digital Learning, was a big winner at this week´s industry award ceremonies, taking both the coveted Golden Lamp and the Distinguished Achievement Awards.

The Golden Lamp, given by the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP), is recognized as the highest award in the educational-resources industry, which includes everyone from traditional textbook publishers to cutting-edge creators of digital curricula. Only four products in the industry, each in its own category, win the award each year.

Britannica School, introduced last fall for grades preK-12, has a host of distinctive features and benefits that set it apart from other school products. Made for today´s digital classroom with extensive, up-to-date information sources, it´s specially designed for differentiated instruction, allowing students to move easily to material of higher or lower reading levels as needed. Unlike most Web-based products, it´s made to display well on any device, be it PC, tablet or smart phone. This is a boon to schools where different kinds of equipment are used as part of today´s “BYOD” movement–“bring your own device” to school.

The content of Britannia School is reliable, age-appropriate, updated continuously and closely correlated to all curriculum standards, including the new Common Core State Standards, for which it provides a multitude of suitable texts in all subjects.

At the AEP award ceremony on Tuesday, June 4, in Washington, D.C., the product was praised for its user friendliness, visual appeal, and as a “classy, valuable resource [with] tons of fascinating material presented in an engaging fashion.”

“This is a breakthrough product, and we knew it would get a great reception from the industry,” said Michael Ross, general manager of Britannica Digital Learning and a senior vice president at Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. “Still, to win in the two categories in which we were finalists is particularly meaningful. We´re very grateful for this recognition from our peers. These are people who create educational resources themselves, and they know a great product when they see it.”

Free trials for Britannica School are available to schools, districts and consortiums. Interested educators can call 1-800-621-3900 or go to http://info.eb.com/products/britannica-school/ for more information.
