FMC Corporation (NYSE: FMC) announced today that it will launch a new anaerobic bioremediation product at the Second International Symposium on Bioremediation and Sustainable Environmental Technologies from June 10 to June 13 in Jacksonville, Florida. The symposium is organized and presented by Battelle.
A highlight of FMC´s attendance will be the launch of its ELS product, an emulsified lecithin substrate designed to enhance in-situ anaerobic bioremediation of groundwater containing chlorinated contaminants.
“Our ELS product is an excellent alternative to oil-based carbon substrates,” said Scott Steffl, director of Soil and Groundwater Remediation. “The ELS product is very easy to apply, long-lasting, and cost-effective — it´s delivered as a stable emulsion that provides a number of physical and chemical advantages over oil-based alternatives, including improved staying power and decreased likelihood of rebound. With the launch of this product, consumers now have a more stable, easier to control solution for in-situ remediation.”
ELS product combines lecithin with a surfactant — both food grade — to support the growth of bacteria that degrade chlorinated organic contaminants in groundwater. As a stable, concentrated emulsion, it is easily diluted with cold water at project sites and is suitable for use under a wide range of conditions. ELS can treat chlorinated solvents, chlorobenzenes, haloalkanes, pesticides and organic explosive compounds, giving it potential for use at dry cleaners, military bases, and manufacturing plants, among other sites. The technology will join FMC´s comprehensive portfolio of soil and groundwater remediation products. For more information, visit environmental.fmc.com/solutions.
Complementing the launch of ELS, FMC scientists and experts will participate in over twenty sessions at Battelle´s Bioremediation Symposium, presenting research, data and posters, on topics related to eliminating pollutants in soil, groundwater, and sediment. The symposium offers more than 500 platform talks and poster presentations, over 50 exhibitors and attracts an audience from around the globe.
