CDPHP Announces Launch of No-Text Pledge

June 14, 2013

Hoping to create awareness about the dangers of texting while driving, CDPHP has partnered with the City School District of Albany to launch a No-Text Pledge.

Albany, NY (PRWEB) June 14, 2013

Each year, about 6,000 deaths and a half million injuries are caused by distracted drivers. That´s according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which says 13% of teen drivers admit to texting at the time of a crash.

Hoping to create awareness about this public health issue, CDPHP has partnered with the Albany Fund for Education (AFE) and the City School District of Albany to launch a No-Text Pledge. For every pledge signed, CDPHP will donate $1 (up to $5,000) to AFE, a not-for-profit organization that helps students within the City School District of Albany learn, grow, and succeed.

“By taking the No-Text Pledge, you commit to making our community safer while supporting innovative programming within the City School District of Albany. As a community-based health plan, CDPHP understands that texting while driving is a public health issue. Please do your part to educate your friends, family, and neighbors about this important initiative,” said Dr. John Bennett, president and CEO, CDPHP.

“As a parent, I know how important it is to keep our roads safe. We all need to do everything we can, starting with being good role models,” said Ron Dunn, vice president, AFE.

A recent Triple-A study found that hands-free technology, including voice-to-text software, is not a safe alternative to texting. The study revealed that voice-activated apps — often used inside vehicles — are more distracting and dangerous than talking on a cell phone.

TAKE THE PLEDGE: Taking the pledge is simple! Head to the CDPHP Facebook page, sign the pledge, and put down your phone while driving. CDPHP thanks you, and so will your loved ones.
