Salimetrics Redesigns Infant Swab for Faster, Easier Collection
A larger diameter infant swab with increased strength that will allow for greater fluid capacity is now available from Salimetrics. Salimetrics is offering its redesigned infant swab to make it easier to collect sufficient saliva volume for laboratory analysis.

The new swab, designed for infants up to six months, produces increased fluid retention through the tip allowing for faster collection of infant saliva. Samples collected using the Salimetrics Infant Swab (SIS) can be tested for cortisol, cotinine, testosterone, sIgA, alpha-amylase, CRP, IL-1beta and Chromogranin A.
The diameter of the Salimetrics Infant Swab has been increased to 6.3 mm. This allows the new swab to access more saliva in the newborn´s mouth and thereby increase the collection volume. Typical recovered sample volume is 200-1000 microliters (µL).
“The larger diameter produces increased rigidity, improving directional orientation during collection,” explained Hans Schroeder, CEO of Salimetrics.
The length of the infant swab allows the collector to hold one end of the swab for young children with risk of choking.

As with all other Salimetrics swabs, the infant swab can be stored utilizing the Salimetrics Swab Storage Tube, and can be frozen at -80C. Flow rate for the infant swab and all Salimetrics swabs can be calculated by recording the collection time and weight of the Salimetrics swab before using a centrifuge to release saliva.
The improved Salimetrics Infant Swab comes complete and ready to collect, individually packaged with printed instructions. The SIS can be ordered by phone or fax, or through any Salimetrics distributor.
