Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) June 25, 2013

The birth control safety center at DrugRisk.com is announcing updated information for women using the vaginal ring contraceptive NuvaRing. A federal panel has decided that several cases recently filed by patients in California alleging blood clot injuries will be joined with the current multi-district litigation in Missouri*.

The goal of DrugRisk is to improve the safety of patients using popular prescription drugs by providing the latest warnings, research, legal news and recalls. Visitors can find out if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.

In recent years, health experts have linked contraceptives like NuvaRing to higher risks of blood clots than traditional birth control pills. Last year, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study finding vaginal ring contraceptives could relate to a 2.5 to 3-fold increased risk of blood clots**.

With more than 1,100 patients filing a NuvaRing lawsuit alleging blood clots, many were consolidated to a special federal court in Missouri. The formal case is known as In re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, No. 08-md-1964, JPML, Eastern District Missouri.

Recently, DrugRisk learned that five patients filed claims in Illinois*** and others attempted to have their cases heard in California*. However, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has ordered that the cases be combined with the current litigation in Missouri, where trials are scheduled to start in October****.

Anyone who suffered a blood clot, stroke, DVT or pulmonary embolism after using NuvaRing is urged to contact the DrugRisk Resource Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal rights as soon as possible.

Due to the specialized nature of federal MDL drug injury cases, DrugRisk only recommends lawyers and law firms who have already handled NuvaRing lawsuits.
