Orlando, FL (PRWEB) June 28, 2013
The birth control safety advocates at DrugNews.net are announcing new information for women using the contraceptive NuvaRing. A federal panel has ruled that several cases filed by patients in California alleging blood clot injuries will be joined with the current nationwide multi-district litigation*.
DrugNews was created to improve consumer safety by providing patients using popular prescription drugs with the latest warnings, research, recalls and legal news. Visitors can find out if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
Health experts have linked contraceptives like NuvaRing to higher risks of blood clots than traditional birth control pills in recent years. Last year, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study finding vaginal ring contraceptives could relate to a 2.5 to 3-fold increased risk of blood clots**.
So far, more than 1,100 patients have filed a NuvaRing lawsuit alleging blood clot injuries, which led to cases being consolidated to a special federal court in Missouri. The formal case is known as In re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, No. 08-md-1964, JPML, Eastern District Missouri.
Recently, DrugNews learned that five patients filed claims in Illinois*** and others attempted to have their cases heard in California*. However, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation ordered that the cases be combined in the Missouri federal court, where trials are scheduled to start in October****.
Anyone who suffered a blood clot, stroke, DVT or pulmonary embolism after using NuvaRing is urged to contact the DrugNews Resource Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal rights as soon as possible.
Due to the specialized nature of federal MDL drug injury cases, DrugNews only recommends lawyers and law firms who have already handled NuvaRing lawsuits.
