The University of Washington car placed in the top three in five of the eight events at SAE International’s Formula SAE® competition, including capturing first in both Design and Endurance, landing them in First Place Overall after the four-day weekend in Lincoln, Neb.

Formula SAE aims to give students real-world experience by incorporating each aspect of designing, building, and implementing a successful Formula car. Students must design the car with the knowledge that it will be evaluated as a potential production item, which not only entails the car, but includes the marketing, management and finances that must occur in order to sell a car.

The winner of each category follows:

  • Overall – University of Washington
  • Design – University of Washington
  • Presentation – Kettering University
  • Cost – Southern Illinoi University – Carbondale
  • Acceleration – San Jose State University
  • Skidpad – McGill University
  • Autocross – Missouri University of Science and Technology
  • Endurance – University of Washington
