University of Western States Launches Mentor Network
The University of Western States (UWS) launches mentor network to facilitate communication between UWS students, alumni and health care professionals to promote continual learning and professional development.
Portland, OR (PRWEB) July 23, 2013
The University of Western States (UWS), a leader in the education of health care professionals, has introduced a mentor network designed to facilitate communication between UWS students, alumni and health care professionals to promote continual learning and professional development. Mentors can be any health care practitioner, and they do not have to be graduates of UWS to participate in the program.
“There’s causality between intentional efforts to prepare health care professionals as smart business owners and their ultimate success in practice,” said UWS president Joseph Brimhall, DC. “Chiropractic physicians and licensed massage therapists provide valuable and essential services to the community, filling a need for high quality, evidence-informed health care. The UWS Mentor Network was established to support and advance the creation of these professional practices.”
“Students and alumni have expressed an interest in establishing one-on-one relationships with experienced health care providers who can provide answers on what to expect outside of the classroom; what to be prepared for after graduation; how to attract patients; and how to develop a practice,” said Kasey Higbee, UWS career services advisor. “The Mentor Network provides them an opportunity to develop those relationships and expand their network.”
How the UWS Mentor Network Works
Any health care practitioner in good standing is eligible to participate in the program. A mentee can be a prospective or current UWS student, a UWS alumnus or a UWS mentor who is seeking to improve his/her clinical and/or business practices.
A mentor begins the process by completing a mentor profile that is accessible to mentees. The mentee initiates contact with a selected mentor after reviewing mentor profiles. The number of times a mentee and mentor connect, and the depth of their professional relationship, is the responsibility of the two parties.
The UWS offices of alumni relations and career services oversee the operation of the UWS Mentor Network.
