Meet Silicon Valley Space Center’s break through start-ups at New Space Frontier Conference

The 80’s and 90’s were about the explosion of the Internet; Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, eBay, etc. These next twenty-five years and beyond will be about Space exploration. Who will be the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs in the new space technology industry? Want to meet them?

The Silicon Valley Space Center (SVSC) and its co-founder Dr. Sean Casey are participating in The New Space Frontier Foundation's annual conference on Thursday, July 25th thru Saturday 27th at the DoubleTree, 2050 Gateway Place, San Jose 95110. SVSC is the premiere facility for assisting space entrepreneurs to get off the ground and into Space and for students to learn the wonders of Space scientific exploration. This event is one of the most important conferences in the nation for Space start-ups. SVSC will be showcasing some of the brightest new companies in the business and some amazing student programs. So where is the next Bill Gates of Space. First stop, Silicon Valley Space Center’s Pavilion.

SMART KIDS IN SPACE

TechEdSat- Founder San Jose State Professor, Periklis Papadopoulos

Phone networks in Space? You bet. San Jose State’s Aeronautical Engineer Professor Periklis Papadopoulos created TechEdSat for his students to design and develop Space products. First up to bat, a mini satellite 1U cube sat version already launched from the International Space Station (ISS). It’s purpose? To perform inter satellite communications from Space utilizing the Iridium and Orbcomm phone network. The 1U was the first mini satellite to be launched from the ISS. Now his students are working on the second generation, a 3U that will deploy from the ISS, which will eliminate the necessity for a ground system.

Puerto Rican high school and college students have spent the summer at the Silicon Valley Space Center learning how to develop a greenhouse system for Space. Applications are enormous for living in space, medicine, food and of course biological testing. With their small eco system these students’ first experiments have been growing arugula and redwoods. So the next time in the grocery shop or walk in the forest, remember soon this too will be in Space.
