SENSIT Technologies Introduces New Pipe Locating Technology to Help Prevent Unnecessary Excavations and Third-Party Damage

August 22, 2013

ULTRA-TRAC APL – Acoustic Pipe Locator is a new technology with the promise to provide accurate location data about buried piping systems.

Valparaiso, Indiana (PRWEB) August 22, 2013

SENSIT Technologies is pleased to introduce the ULTRA-TRAC APL – Acoustic Pipe Locator. The APL is a new technology with the promise to provide accurate location data about buried piping systems. This technology, developed by Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and Operations Technology Development (OTD), is expected to save the industry millions of dollars by helping to reduce the potential for damage to buried pipes and the resulting incidents that can create customer outages.

The technology has been demonstrated to detect and locate small-diameter plastic pipes to depths of up to five feet and has been tested for the most common ground conditions, including concrete, asphalt, grass, and dirt. The buried pipe can be detected in most soil conditions.

Scott Kleppe, President and COO, Sensit Technologies notes “The APL transceiver/receiver generates and analyzes data in real time to provide information on the location of buried pipes—including plastic pipes.”

“Sensit has a long history of introducing valuable new technologies; focused on positively impacting utilities’ bottom lines. Precise detection and location of buried pipe and facilities from above ground will help the industry reduce the number of unnecessary excavations and help minimize third-party damage costs.”

SENSIT is showcasing the APL and scheduling product demonstrations at gas utility industry events, common ground alliance (CGA) gatherings, and utility contractor and pipeline safety conferences across the United States.
