Leading US Beverage Bottler Uses Engineered Treatment Systems (ETS) Closed Vessel UV Disinfection to Efficiently Treat Process Water

A leading bottler of sports drinks and teas for major suppliers around the globe with a unique set of variables- water type and flow fluctuations. In addition, a smaller footprint had to be achieved.

Beaver Dam, WI (PRWEB) August 27, 2013

ETS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Neptune-Benson, is pleased to supply their ETS ultraviolet disinfection system to treat the process water for a leading bottler of sports drinks and teas for major suppliers around the globe.

It is well recognized that waterborne microorganisms and containments of emerging concern like pharmaceuticals and personal care products in the water are responsible for adverse effects on the flavor, color, odor and shelf life of soft drinks, bottled water and food products. Any water being used in the food and beverage industry, either for product, or as part of the process must be treated in order to ensure the integrity of the end product. Ultraviolet disinfection provides an elegant disinfection solution. There is no residual left behind by UV treatment which would interfere with the taste, color or product chemistry of the water, but it does eliminate any pathogens and spoilage organisms present.

This beverage bottler has a unique set of variables. The plant can choose between the use of on-site well water and municipal water. There are times during the day when the water flow fluctuates. It is crucial that the UV system be able to automatically switch between these very different types and flows of water, and continuously and automatically deliver the requited dose of UV light. In addition to the flow rate and water type, space is at a premium for this facility. The area in which the process has to be installed abuts a fence that cannot be relocated. The footprint must be small.

“This system has the ability to be dose paced so the correct UV dosage is being applied to the water flowing through the system,” said Jon McClean, ETS President. “We design our systems to only give you the UV dosage that you need, this makes our system more flexible and cuts down on energy consumption.”

ETS is an expert in the application of UV light, offering both medium pressure and low pressure amalgam lamp technologies. Flexible design ensures that ETS can provide advanced technology solutions for both new installations and retrofits of existing systems, in a range of simple to footprint challenging environments.

From only a few GPM to full-scale treatment plants treating flows of 30 MGD in a single chamber, ETS can provide effective solutions for any specification or location. All systems are independently, third party validated in accordance with the US EPA guidelines for drinking water, or the NWRI guidelines for reuse water.
