Pima Medical Institute Offers New Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant
The online degree completion program provides students with advanced PTA knowledge and skills.
Mesa, AZ (PRWEB) September 06, 2013
Pima Medical Institute, a leading private medical training college, announced today a new bachelor’s degree in physical therapist assisting. The degree completion program, designed for current physical therapist assistants, is offered exclusively online.
Pima Medical Institute’s Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant (BSPTA) helps students develop the advanced foundational, technical and evidence-based knowledge necessary to progress skills, enhance professionalism and apply critical thinking as physical therapist assistants.
The BSPTA is a four-semester degree-completion program requiring that applicants possess a high school diploma or recognized equivalency, have graduated from a PTA associate degree program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and have completed a total of 66 semester credits at the postsecondary level. The 66 transfer credits must include 15 general education credits, 39 PTA technical credits and 12 related credits. The program can be completed in approximately 14 months or less, depending on the number of transfer credits.
“Pima Medical Institute has been dedicated to preparing the most successful and well-trained health care professionals in the industry for more than 40 years. We are excited to offer our new Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant degree completion program and continue to offer students a quality education relevant to their needs and goals,” said Mark Luebke, president of Pima Medical Institute. “The new online program will help expand students’ knowledge and skills as physical therapist assistants, helping to better meet the needs of employers and patients.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of physical therapist assistants is expected to grow 46 percent through 2020, much faster than average for all occupations. Demand for physical therapy services is expected to increase due to the needs of an aging population who is staying more active in later in life.
Since the BSPTA program is offered online, it provides students with the flexibility to balance their education with personal and professional commitments. While similar BSPTA programs emphasize general health science courses, Pima Medical Institute’s program stands apart by focusing on courses that advance students’ physical therapist assistant knowledge and skills. Students choose between an inpatient or outpatient track, taking courses on exercise physiology, evidence-based practice, inpatient and outpatient care, clinical kinesiology, practice-specific rehabilitation and more. Financial aid is available to those who qualify, and Pima Medical Institute offers career planning services – such as help with writing resumes and sharpening interview skills – for every student.
