New Mobile Reporting Platform from OneWhitePixel Links Scientific Researchers With Field Reporters

With FieldReporter, research organizations or teams quickly and affordably customize and manage their own app and gather and access the exact data they need. Previously, this was only possible using custom developed apps that took months to create while costing tens of thousands of dollars.
FieldReporter helps researchers and scientists expand the scope of data collection by letting them engage colleagues and the public in identifying and pinpointing species, artifacts, and other specimens. With FieldReporter, mobile technology can become an integral part of research, because the cost of FieldReporter is one-third the cost of custom app development and can be fully developed to specific research needs in a week rather than the typical development cycle of at least three months.
OneWhitePixel has created a clean, simple app design that is easy to use and easy to learn so researchers don’t have to provide training or technical support to users. FieldReporter can be used with OneWhitePixel’s Command Center, a web-based tool for monitoring incoming data.
The app provides clear visual samples of the intended specimens to guide field reporters. To contribute, field reporters simply take a photo of the specimen with their iPhone. Location and time are automatically added. Users send the image and information and it is uploaded to a database. Researchers can add optional fields to encourage contributors to provide additional information if needed. They can also ask the contributor to self-identify as a research professional or public contributor.
First Customer Announced
The European COST SMARTER project is the initial FieldReporter customer. Based at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, the pan-European organization of health care researchers will use Field Reporter to collect data on Common Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) the most invasive and most allergenic plant species. Their SMARTER Ambrosia Reporter will enable research professionals and the public to work together to locate, map and monitor ragweed occurrences throughout the region. A pilot project will focus on Switzerland and the Netherlands and later expand across the EU research community.
With the launch of FieldReporter, OneWhitePixel steps up an impressive list of location-based mobile offerings.
