(PRWEB) February 24, 2014
Florida Hospital Tampa is hosting a free community heart screening on Friday, February 28th from 7am to 12pm. The 15-minute screening includes cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI. Once screened, each individual will have the chance to sit down one-on-one with a medical professional to discuss their results. Cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death in the United States for both men and women, more than all cancers combined. That’s why it is important to know your risk factors for heart disease. Lifestyle, diet and genetics all play a part in heart health risks and benefits. The American Heart Association recommends that heart attack prevention should start by age 20. “Newly revised guidelines for the prevention of heart disease all emphasize an initial risk assessment to guide testing and therapy. This is where regular heart screenings come into play. If I know your cholesterol, body-mass index, and family history… with amazing accuracy, I can predict your actual risk of having cardiovascular disease,” said Dr. Charles Lambert, Medical Director, Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute.
Join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders, Captain Fear and a surprise player from 9:00am to 11:00am as they show their support for American Heart Month at Florida Hospital Tampa’s “15 Minutes For Your Health” community heart screening event. All participants will receive a gift and can enter to win an autographed Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey. Complimentary valet parking will be available in front of Florida Hospital Tampa’s Pepin Heart Institute for the event. Regular heart screenings can help determine your risk for heart disease such as coronary artery disease, the leading cause of heart attacks. Education and awareness are the first steps to fighting heart disease, along with knowing the signs of a heart attack. Many people do not recognize the signs of a heart attack and wait too long before getting help. Signs of a heart attack include an uncomfortable pressure or squeezing in the chest, pain in the neck, jaw, arms or stomach, shortness of breath, dizziness or lightheadedness, nausea and breaking out in a cold sweat. The screening event is just one of many ways Florida Hospital Tampa is elevating healthcare in Tampa Bay.
