Revolutionary New Product for AS/400 Migration
Infinite I 10c incorporates every conceivable update and capability that any end-user or developer could desire for their legacy COBOL or RPG programs that were written for the AS/400 environment. The latest product from Infinite migrates and deploys applications written for the AS400 platform to Linux, Windows and UNIX platforms. The toolset also deploys data to Oracle or MS SQL as part of the process. The interactive portion of the applications are deployed via a graphical browser that is inherently part of Infinite I 10c. In previous versions of the Infinite I toolset migrating applications, data and screens were separate processes and required different products. This is a converged toolset designed to simplify the complete process.
The Flexibility to support existing RPG applications in Java
As RPG and COBOL resources become more scarce, businesses are seeking to provide support for core applications in more widely deployed languages like Java. With this in mind, Infinite provides the ability to make changes to RPG or COBOL source code from a Java editor. This means that basic code maintenance issues can be handled in Java. Additionally, Infinite provides the ability to co-execute with Java-based applications via plug-ins directly from the original code. Of course, the Java front end of the Infinite I 10c screens can also plug into, consume and be consumed by Java applications.
Support for RPG Free Format
Infinite I 10c includes support for RPGIII, RPG/400, RPG ILE, COBOL/400, COBOL ILE, CL, CLILE and DDS. The latest version also supports RPG Free. The ability to recompile and deploy applications beyond fixed format for RPG was a considerable undertaking. Infinite felt that this support was crucial because there are many developers who continue to work on their IBM I platform as a development environment. Many of these companies then deploy applications under AIX or Linux for the Power platform. Support for the extended RPG environment was viewed as important by the Infinite team.
Migration, Modernization and Cloud-Enablement in one
“We wanted to release a tool that migrated, modernized and integrated AS/400-based applications to open systems in a way that incorporated all the tools the marketplace has required”, said Bruce Acacio, CEO , Infinite Corporation. “I think this new product hits the mark, said Raquela Kaplan, Director of Marketing, Infinite Corporation.
Once the applications are recompiled and deployed, they will operate under Linux, Windows or AIX without having to write a single line of code. The data will automatically be migrated as part of the same process and it will reside in Oracle or MS SQL. The green screens of the legacy AS/400 applications will transform into beautiful graphical screen automatically with no editing required and will be deployed via any industry standard browser. In the post-migration environment, future application support can be provide in the original language or Java. These applications can co-execute with Java applications from runtime and at the front end. Data can be accessed from Oracle or MS SQL as it would be with any application that was written for those databases natively.
This new version of Infinite I is a complete remake of the toolset. There are new compilers that add functionality for Free Format Code developed in RPG, expanded support for ILE functionality in RPG, COBOL, and CL. There are new development tools that provide for support and maintenance of migrated code in Java, C, and in the original RPG or COBOL. This new version also allows the Infinite I Application Server to co-execute with COTS Java applications or newly developed Java applications in a seamless manner. Infinite I v10C is a Cloud deployed Application Server that renders screens graphically in Java using Tomcat/Apache. It requires no client and is accessible from all major mobile devices and operating systems.
Infinite i 10C simply takes RPG and COBOL applications written for the IBM I (AS/400) platform and deploys them under Linux in a Java-based UI. The data is deployed using Oracle 12c. This toolset for modernizing AS/400 applications creates a complete Java-interactive migration toolset.
There are toolsets that translate RPG or COBOL in to Java or C#, there are toolsets that migrate data from the iDB (DB2/400) database to Oracle, and there are GUI generators that also web-deploy screens. This toolset from Infinite I 10c is the complete package. Infinite i 10C migrates, Infinite i 10C modernizes, Infinite i 10C updates the database, and most importantly, Infinite i 10C doesn't require a rewrite of the code or data structure.
When the process is complete (about 90 days); the IBM I-based code will execute under inexpensive, industry standard X86 servers, running open source Linux under the Oracle database using graphical screens that are cloud deployed in Java.
