Turkmenistan Records 4 Per Cent Population Growth

According to data provided by the [Turkmen] national statistics and information institute, Turkmenistan's population was 6,525,800 by 1 December 2004, 4 per cent up on the similar period last year.
The highest population growth, 5 per cent, was observed in the city of Asgabat. In the regions, population growth took place in both urban and rural areas. The proportion of urban and rural population across the country is 47 and 53 per cent respectively.
