New Arbor Day Foundation Public Service Announcement Shows How People Can Help Replant National Forests Damaged By Wildfires
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ — The National Arbor Day Foundation recently launched a new public service campaign in which Americans from all walks of life can help replant trees in a National Forest that has been damaged by wildfires.
Wildfire season started two months earlier than usual this year, and already many acres have been damaged in our National Forests from coast to coast. The United States is coming off back-to-back record years of wildfires. During the 2006 wildfire season alone, a total of 9.8 million acres burned, topping the previous year’s record of 8.7 million acres. As a result, the Forest Service has needed to divert much of its budget to fighting these massive fires, creating a backlog of more than one million acres identified as in need of replanting.
The Arbor Day Foundation’s new PSA will alert your readers and viewers to the immediate problem. The PSA also offers a simple call to action in which they can help with reforestation efforts through the Foundation’s “Replanting Our National Forests” program so that future generations can enjoy these treasures for years to come.
