It Will Help Save Endangered Species

AFTER reading Sahabat Alam Malaysia’s objections to the wildlife- breeding project initiated by the Wildlife and National Parks Department (“Stick to your role as guardian” – NST, Oct 26), I have this to say: thumbs up to the department for its effort to breed animals such as the porcupine for meat.

I also think SAM’s concerns are somewhat misplaced here since not every form of wildlife bred under this scheme will end up on someone’s dinner table.

Some of them will, in fact, be released into the wild to help ensure that the endangered specie does not become extinct.

I think we can regard this breeding scheme as a solution by the Wildlife Department to keep the exotic meat eaters happy while addressing the concerns SAM has raised in its letter.

I believe the department should be encouraged to proceed with the project (for which they have both the tools and the technology) to show to the world what Malaysia can do for the conservation of wildlife.
