John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers, Inc. (ERI), has been named to the Board of Advisors of ATHGO (Alliance Toward Harnessing Global Opportunities).
ATHGO, a member of UN Global Compact, was established in 1999 to bring next generation thinking directly to current decision-makers by promoting active participation among students and young entrepreneurs. The organization strives to engage and train the next generation of international professionals in an environment void of political influence; enhance policy development; broaden prospects for implementation; strengthen international institutions; and improve international relations. ATHGO holds consultative statuses with the UN ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) and the UN DPI (Department of Public Information).
Shegerian is Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers, Inc. (ERI). Established in 2002, ERI is an Electronic Waste collector and recycler, specializing in the environmentally safe and socially responsible dismantling of electronic items such as computers, televisions and monitors. Electronic Recyclers is recognized as the Number One Electronic Waste Recycler in the state of California and one of the largest in North America.
Passionately espousing his trademarked mantra that "Green is Good," Shegerian also serves as a board member on the VerdeXchange for Innovations and Developments in the Green Economy. He also serves on the Fundraising Committee and as an Ambassador of Education at California State University at Fresno. Shegerian also serves on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Fresno and on the Media Relations steering committee for the State of California's Integrated Waste Management Board.
Shegerian has a 25 year track record of quickly converting start-ups into large, highly successful business enterprises. He serves alongside Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a member of the California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth and was recently appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to serve on the Governor's Gang Advisory Committee, focused on providing the State's top legislators with guidance pertaining to policies geared toward the reduction of gang and youth violence.
"It is an honor and privilege to be named to ATHGO's advisory board alongside such esteemed fellow Board Members," said Shegerian. "ATHGO's work is vital to the longevity of our planet. By reaching out to our next generation of leadership with messages of sustainability and environmental responsibility they are investing in the future. It is with great pride that I accept their invitation to serve on their Board."
"We have known John for awhile and he has given stirring presentations at our meetings in the past," said Armen Orujyan, PhD, ATHGO's Founder and President. "John and his team at ERI are true champions for the environment. Going away from the conventional methodology, John is in touch with his environmental DNA and works toward a clean, healthy, and wasteless future. I believe ATHGO will benefit tremendously from the presence of such a reputable and environmentally friendly business mind on our advisory board."
