NPRA Comments on Poll Paid for By Ethanol Interest Groups
NPRA, the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association, Executive Vice President Charles T. Drevna commented today on a new poll paid for and released by the Renewable Fuels Association and other members of a coalition of ethanol special-interest groups:
“No one promoting a realistic energy policy based on a widely diverse fuel mix believes that biofuels will not play an important role in our nation’s energy future, but the market — not the government — should determine the extent of that role. Hastily fashioned coalitions and small-scale public opinion polls notwithstanding, a mandated increase in biofuels production to an arbitrarily determined amount, as shown recently by the National Academy of Sciences, highly regarded economists, environmentalists and food producers, is simply bad policy and would do more harm than good to our environment, our economy, and our nation’s energy security.”
