North Today: Two Saved in Flats Fire

TWO people living on the second floor were rescued by fire crews after a suspected arson attack on a three-storey block of flats on Tyneside yesterday.
The blaze began between in Greendyke Court, Newbiggin Hall, Newcastle, shortly before 6.30am.
One resident was led to safety after crews forced entry while another escaped using a ladder.
The landing outside their flats was damaged, and the rest of the building suffered the effects of smoke.
