Regional Municipalities and Water Resources Minister / Statement
According to Oman News: Sheikh Abdullah bin Salim Al Rowas, Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources affirmed that the Sultanate’s organization for the fourth conference of wadis water hydrology comes within the framework of Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s attention in caring for water resources, ensuring their optimum use, developing them and protecting their resources. It also comes in response to the Sultan’s constant call for preservation of water resources as they are national wealth. In a statement Al Rowas said that water resources development is one of the main pillars of the development process experienced by the Sultanate under the wise leadership of the Sultan who stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between the requirements of developments, protection of water resources and ensuring their optimum use.The conference will contribute to accelerating the transportation of new and modern technologies that ensure optimum use of water resources, meet the requirements of water and enhancing the Sultanate’s water wealth.The Sultanate continues the implementation of a national strategy to preserve its water resources. The Ministry implemented a number of vital water projects and is conducting a number of studies to manage the demand on water and study the technologies used in rationalization of water consumption by the various sectors, finding modern alternative means for irrigation water, such as, using the treated wastewater. The Ministry also is continuing its effort to dig more exploratory wells for underground water basins, the results of which have been positive, he added.
