Water Pipeline Shut for Repairs

Dec. 10–GILROY–An untreated water pipeline running along Pacheco Pass Highway from the San Luis Reservoir up to Gilroy is undergoing maintenance and repairs, a Santa Clara Valley Water District spokeswoman said.
The pipe was shut down Nov. 20 and work was expected to be finished by the end of the week, said Susan Siravo, the district’s spokeswoman.
“This is the first comprehensive internal inspection of the pipeline — from the outskirts of Gilroy to the San Luis Reservoir,” she said.
Water district officials began planning the inspection several years ago, including planning for alternative water supply, notification of retailers, ordering equipment and contracting for the work, Siravo said.
The pipeline carries water from the Sacramento Delta and connects to other pipes that carries the water to the Rinconada Treatment Plant in Los Gatos. The district coordinated the closure with Santa Clara, San Benito and Merced counties, Siravo said.
“We still have plenty of water to serve the communities,” she said. No residents experienced interruptions in their water delivery, Siravo said.
