Chemical Week to Provide Answers on the New Homeland Security Rules for Chemical Facilities
Posted on: Wednesday, 19 December 2007, 15:00 CST
Responding to the new "appendix A" list of regulated chemicals from DHS as well as the other logistics and transportation challenges facing the industry today, Chemical Week is bringing together key government and industry leaders at their annual Transportation event in New Orleans.
"With the deadline for plants to complete their facility profiles looming we've assembled key players from DHS and elsewhere to answer questions on the operational impact of these rules on shippers and carriers," noted Esther D'Amico, Managing Editor of Chemical Week and moderator of this important session.
Speaking with Esther at Chemical Week's transportation event, again in New Orleans, will be Dennis Deziel, Deputy Director, Chemical Security Compliance Division, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as well as Bill Almond from SOCMA and George Estel of the New York State Office of Homeland Security.
In addition to this critical session, this year's conference tackles a slew of urgent new issues in transportation, distribution, and security that the chemical industry is contending with. How is the chemical industry dealing with continuing labor shortages among carriers? Are freight rates going to climb further in 2008? Are there still lessons to be learned for shippers and carriers from the devastating hurricanes that hit the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2005?
Central themes to be addressed at the 13th Annual Chemical Transportation, Distribution and Security Conference include:
The ins and outs of the Department of Homeland Security's new security law, and its implications for production, storage and transportation of chemicals
How the industry is addressing rising freight rates and labor shortages among carriers
A look at the rebuilding of New Orleans two years after the devastation caused by hurricanes, and the lingering effect on the transportation network
Lessons learned in emergency preparedness and disaster recovery
