Kazakhstan, Germany Agree to Create Joint Stem Cell Laboratory

ASTANA. Dec 21 (Interfax) – An agreement to create a joint Kazakh- German stem cell laboratory on the basis of the M.A. Aytkhozhin Institute of Molecular Biology was reached at the meeting between Kazakh Education and Science Minister Zhanseit Tuymebayev and Director of the Institute of Neurophysiology at the University of Cologne, Prof. Dr. Jurgen Hescheler said in Astana on Friday.

Creation of this laboratory “will make it possible to implement joint research projects concerned with the study of human organism function failures and aging,” the ministry said.

Both sides signed a joint memorandum on mutual understanding between the M.A. Aytkhozhin Institute of Molecular Biology and the University of Cologne and creation of a joint Kazakh-German stem cell laboratory.

According to the ministry, Hescheler “highly appreciated the level of development of biotechnology in Kazakhstan and noted the powerful potential of Kazakh colleagues.”
