Lake quality topic of Guilford seminar

GUILFORD - A lake quality seminar will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at the Guilford United Methodist Church, sponsored by the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Natural Resource Education Center.

Presenters include Paul Johnson, fisheries biologist, and Doug Kane, wildlife biologist, both of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife; Paul Roble, an engineer with the Natural Resources Conservation Service; Valerie Whittier, a specialist with the Department of Environmental Protection; Kristina Henderson from the Land Use Regulatory Commission; and Clyde Walton of the Coalition of Lake Associations.

Speakers will cover subjects pertinent to those owning lakefront properties or building camp roads near water. Topics include the protection of fisheries and wildlife, buffer zones, septic and erosion issues, permitting requirements, and more. Speakers will conduct a question-and-answer period after the session.

Cost is by donation, with proceeds to be split between the two host organizations. Preregistration is recommended. For more information, call the district conservation office at 564-2321.
