Clonaid Shows Photo of Cloned Baby
SAO PAULO (AFP) — Brigitte Boisselier handed out photographs of the third of five babies she claims her company Clonaid has cloned, but gave no scientific evidence to prove it.
Boisselier is president of Clonaid. She is also a senior member of the Raelians, a religious group that believes the human race was cloned by aliens who landed on Earth 25,000 years ago.
The Raelians are in Brazil to promote books and to seek support for their cloning projects.
Boisselier showed the picture of a baby in a blanket with his face partially covered.
Boisselier said that in the next few days she would present evidence that the baby, who is said to be Japanese, is cloned.
She said the baby’s father would soon travel to Brazil to offer scientists proof that the baby’s DNA is identical to that of a deceased sibling.
Raelian leader Claude Vorilhon, known as Rael, arrived in Brazil on Friday with Boisselier.
They plan to travel later in the week to Porto Alegre to convince members of the Rio Grande do Sul state legislature to allow human cloning.
