Second MMU President Appointed

PROFESSOR Dr Zaharin Yusoff (picture), 52, has been appointed the second president of Multimedia University (MMU) .

The former dean of College of Graduate Studies at Universiti Tenaga Malaysia is the second MMU president. He replaces Professor Datuk Dr Ghauth Jasmon who was president for 11 years.

Kota Baru-born Zaharin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Mathematics with first-class honours and a Master of Science in Pure Mathematics from the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom.

He started his career as a lecturer in the School of Mathematics at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 1980.

In 1991, he was named Head of the Department of Computer Science Section, School of Mathematics and Computer Sciences at USM and, in 1995, founding dean of USM’s School of Computer Science.

The professor with experience in computational linguistics and artificial intelligence has worked with Mimos Bhd and played a key role as referee for Machine Translation Journal UK/USA since 1996.

In March 1999, he was appointed a fellow of the Malaysian Academy of Science.
