Senator Charles Schumer Tours Novomer
Novomer Inc., a materials company pioneering a family of high-performance, biodegradable plastics, polymers and other chemicals from renewable substances such as carbon dioxide, today announced that Senator Charles Schumer has toured the company’s facility, located in Ithaca, NY. Senator Schumer’s visit included a tour of the South Hill Business Campus, where Novomer is located, as well as a walk-through and introductory explanation of Novomer’s eco-plastics operations.
“Novomer is a real gem of environmental innovation in Upstate New York,” said Senator Schumer. “My tour of the South Hill Business Campus was terrific. It reaffirmed the fact that the facility’s eco-plastics operations are truly cutting-edge and will help keep the Southern Tier as an active, innovative participant in energy and environment reform.”
The world will consume 300 million more pounds of plastic this week than it did last week, a fact that makes Novomer’s progressive new technology a growing necessity. Based on the discoveries of Dr. Geoffrey Coates and his research group at Cornell University, Novomer creates sustainable materials by using carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide as inexpensive feedstocks, rather than using valuable and expensive food resources.
“We were pleased to welcome Senator Schumer to Novomer and the South Hill Business Campus,” said Charles Hamilton, President of Novomer. “As a long-time advocate for energy and environmental reform policies, we are proud to have Senator Schumer’s support for Novomer’s innovative technology.”
