Maqbool Heads to Abu Dhabi
According to Oman News: Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Minister of Commerce and Industry and his accompanying delegation left here today for Abu Dhabi, U.A.E to take part at the 11th GCC industrialists conference scheduled to be held on 20th January under the theme ‘petrochemical sector ………. Future vision for 2020 and lasts for two days. The delegation accompanying the Minister of Commerce and Industry comprises Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for commerce and industry, Abdullah bin Ali al Hinai, Director General of Industry and a number of the Ministry’s officials. In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), Maqbool said that the conference which is held by rotation among GCC countries every two-years will highlight the state of petrochemicals industries in GCC countries and the future prospects for 2020. The conference also aims to discuss role of GCC countries in the international petrochemical industries, the future developments, the market trends, investment, finance of GCC petrochemical industries, challenges facing GCC petrochemical industry and preparing the way to 2020, he added. ‘This year conference is one of the important events as wide participation from GCC and foreign countries are insured. Alongside with the topics that will be covered by the main speakers like the Former German Prime Minister, a number of working papers will be also covered by experts at petrochemical organizations, he furthered. Petrochemical industry is one of the novel industries in the Sultanate as it was introduced five years ago. A number of petrochemical plants were set up in the wilayat of Sohar with about $12 billion investments; some of them are owned by the government and others by the Omani and foreign private sector. There is also a number of plants in the wilayat of Sur, such as the fertilizer and liquefied gas, in addition, to the projects that will be set up in Salalah Free Zone, he continued. At the end of his statements, Maqbool affirmed that work is underway at a number of new petrochemical ventures alongside with the current energy-based, aluminum and steel plants. He also welcomed the GCC investments in this field. The Minister of Commerce and Industry and his accompanying delegation were seen off by Ahmed bin Sulaiman bin Saleh al Maimani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Administrative, Financial and Regional Affairs and a number of the Ministry’s officials.
