Opportunities at Weiss to Help Remediation at SLAC
Mike Dresen, CEO of Weiss Associates (Weiss), has announced that Weiss, on a team including C/P/E and URS, has been selected to provide consulting services to complete environmental remediation at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). Under terms of this contract, Weiss will provide project management and is responsible for remedial investigation, risk assessment, field sampling and regulatory reporting. Mr. Dresen says, “the $11M / three-year contract will be staged out of our Mountain View office. It provides Weiss with additional ‘green’ backlog and offers opportunities for exceptional environmental engineers and geologists to join Weiss in executing this project.”
Weiss and the C/P/E team will remediate and clean up soil and groundwater contamination in specified areas at SLAC. Weiss’ unique and comprehensive experience at DOE and CERCLA sites, in conducting efficient soil removals, and familiarity with DOE budget and project management protocols, were certainly important factors in SLAC’s selection of the C/P/E team. Project activities will include conducting soil and groundwater investigations, performing feasibility studies, preparing remedial action plans, designing remediations, managing soil removal actions and constructing and testing treatment systems.
Mr. Bob Devany, a Certified Engineering Geologist and Hydrogeologist with over 20 years of experience, will be the Project Manager leading this effort. Mr. Devany states, “Weiss’ expertise in environmental remediation of soil and ground water at other DOE facilities in California provides a solid foundation for efficient cleanup to DOE, SLAC, regulatory and stakeholder standards.”
Weiss serves both the public and private sectors, providing environmental and waste management services at more than 1,625 hazardous sites, including remediation at more than 450 sites, primarily in Northern California. The firm has also worked at 17 Superfund (CERCLA) sites and 10 RCRA facilities, in addition to more than 500 sites that were addressed under California-mandated or voluntary actions. Weiss is a California environmental science, engineering and management consulting firm with offices in Emeryville and Mountain View. Established in 1980, the firm has continuously demonstrated professional excellence in: environmental site assessments, risk assessment and modeling, engineering and remediation, environmental planning and compliance, litigation support, air programs, and water services.
