Monkey Island

THE beach at Monkey Island is unsafe for swimming and shellfish gathering, Environment Southland tells us ( “Effluent prompts alert” — January 12) because of dairy effluent in a stream flowing into the bay.
Who is responsible for this? What will Environment Southland do now? A warning in the newspaper is well and good but it doesn’t get the cow muck out of the way.
