‘Salute to Songbirds’ Feb. 10
MAQUOKETA, Iowa – A “Salute to Songbirds” traveling exhibit grand opening will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa.
The interactive exhibit, sponsored by the Jackson County Conservation Board and Friends of Jackson County Conservation, addresses the challenges facing migratory songbirds and what individuals can do to help them.
A program at 3 p.m. will be followed by the first public viewing of the exhibit at 4 p.m. and a soup supper fundraiser for the Friends of Jackson County Conservation at 5 p.m. Proceeds will be used to develop a self-guided trail throughout the Hurstville marsh and prairie.
Bring your own reusable tableware and receive a 50-cent discount on your dinner.
Cost of program, exhibit tour and soup supper at the door is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12 years old and free for children 5 years old and under. Discounted tickets may be purchased in advance at the Hurstville Interpretive Center.

Loras Habitat project raising funds
Loras College Habitat for Humanity will be raising money to raise the roof on its latest building project in Dubuque from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.
On that day, 20 percent of all proceeds from pizza sold at Cafe Manna Java, 269 Main St., will be donated by the restaurant to the Loras Chapter to help them with building costs of homes for this school year.
