Environmental Activist to Speak at University
Ed Begley Jr., an actor and environmental activist, will be visiting the University of Redlands on Thursday, Jan. 31, as a guest speaker for the Convocation Lecture Series.
He will speak about “living green” at 7:30 p.m. at the university’s Orton Center.
The talk is free and open to the public. Begley, who arrives at Hollywood events on his bicycle and sells environmentally friendly products in his “Begley’s Best” line of cleaners, has long been considered an environmental leader in the Hollywood community, according to his Web site.
He is the star of HGTV’s reality series “Living With Ed,” which illuminates his 30-plus years of commitment to saving the planet.
Begley has served as chairman of the Environmental Media Association and the Santa Monica Mountains conservancy. He is also involved with the Thoreau Institute, the Earth Communications Office, Tree People and Friends of the Earth, among others. His work in the environmental community has earned him a number of awards, including recognition from the California League of Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Coalition for Clean Air, Heal the Bay, and the Santa Monica Baykeeper, his Web site notes.
Begley has had roles on the television series “Veronica Mars,”"Arrested Development,”"Six Feet Under,” the classic “St. Elsewhere,” among others. He has stared in the movies “For Your Consideration,”"A Mighty Wind,”"Best in Show,”"This is Spinal Tap,” and “Batman Forever.”
