SCOTLAND’S GBP 1 billion-plus chemicals sector will be showcased this week at one of the world’s leading industry events, writes Scott Reid.

A trade delegation will promote the country as a “competitive European location for chemical manufacture, research and development” at Informex 2008 in New Orleans.

Representatives from Grangemouth-based Kemfine, NiTech Solutions of East Kilbride and Edinburgh-based Aptuit will join Scottish Development International officials and members from the Scottish Enterprise chemical sciences team in Louisiana.

Informex is widely recognised as one of the most influential events for the chemical sector and attracts more than 4,000 customers from some 500 companies worldwide.

The chemical industry in Scotland is the country’s second- largest exporter, generating about GBP 1.3bn in annual revenues. It employs some 14,000 people directly.
