Weiss to Provide Environmental Services for UC Davis’s LEHR Site
Weiss Associates (Weiss), prime contractor on a team including CH2M HILL, has been selected to provide environmental oversight at the Laboratory for Energy-related Health Research on the University of California’s Davis campus. Richard Weiss, founder of Weiss, believes that “Weiss was awarded this $5M / three-year contract because of our demonstrated excellent performance and experience at the related DOE LEHR facility since 1996. Weiss plans to add outstanding senior level engineers and geologists to augment our existing staff for this and other projects we have recently won.”
Weiss’ efforts will include optimizing remedial actions for three former land disposal units; addressing hexavalent chromium in groundwater under part of the site; preventing migration and reducing the mass of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in groundwater; operating existing and future groundwater extraction systems; and completing all CERCLA work plans and reports. CH2M HILL will provide landfill engineering expertise.
Weiss’ services for UC Davis build upon over 11 years of experience working at the LEHR site on behalf of the United Stated Department of Energy. Mr. Bob Devany, a Certified Engineering Geologist and Hydrogeologist with over 20 years of experience, will be the Project Manager leading this effort. Mr. Devany believes that his “familiarity with the site conditions, relevant environmental regulations, stakeholders and project management will provide UC Davis with a clear path towards site clean up and closure.”
Weiss serves both the public and private sectors, providing environmental and waste management services at more than 1,625 hazardous sites, including remediation at more than 450 sites, primarily in Northern California. The firm has also worked at 17 Superfund (CERCLA) sites and 10 RCRA facilities, in addition to more than 500 sites that were addressed under California-mandated or voluntary actions. Weiss is a California environmental science, engineering and management consulting firm with offices in Emeryville and Mountain View. Established in 1980, the firm has continuously demonstrated professional excellence in: environmental site assessments, risk assessment and modeling, engineering and remediation, environmental planning and compliance, litigation support, air programs, and water services.
