It was third time lucky for Devon dairy specialists Donna and Alan Webber, winners of this year’s South West Dairy Farm Business of the Year Award.

A packed audience at the Dairy Show at Shepton Mallet on Somerset heard the Webbers, from Crediton, named as victors of the prestigious title, from a shortlist of six farming companies from across the region.

“Of course we’re absolutely delighted,” said Mrs Webber. “We’ve been second and third before and we always hoped that we might land the championship.” Organic milk from their 135 New Zealand Friesians goes to Parkham Farms for organic cheese.

They have farmed 287 rented acres since Mr Webber took over the tenancy from his parents – and have been fully organic for the past seven years.

A full report and pictures from the Dairy Show – which was postponed from last October – will appear in the WMN’s Westcountry Farming section on Wednesday.
