Noted Woods Hole Scientist Joins Gradient Corporation
Tim Verslycke, Ph.D., a marine ecotoxicologist at the world-renowned Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, MA, has joined Gradient Corporation. Dr. Verslycke is a recognized expert in ecotoxicological research, specifically in evaluating the potential effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). The potential effects of manmade chemicals on the hormone systems of humans and wildlife are a growing concern and focus of extensive research and political debate. His expertise in environmental risk assessment, chemical regulatory screening and testing, molecular and environmental toxicology, will add substantially to Gradient’s existing expertise and service offerings. Dr. Verslycke’s strong scientific background in the ecotoxicology of EDCs, pharmaceuticals and pesticides, will augment Gradient’s ability to provide expanded high-quality consulting services in these growing markets.
“Dr. Verslycke’s expertise adds to Gradient’s capabilities in Natural Resource Damages, Ecological Risk Assessment, and ecological effects of “leading edge” contaminants like Endocrine Disruptors,” says Gradient’s President and Founder, Neil Shifrin, Ph.D.
Dr. Verslycke’s research and scientific publications on the regulatory screening and testing of EDCs using invertebrate models have substantially impacted the current regulatory framework for EDCs worldwide. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, one of which was recently selected as a highlighted paper in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety. Dr. Verslycke was awarded two highly competitive postdoctoral fellowships, one from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the other from the Belgian American Educational Foundation. His graduate thesis was awarded the highly prestigious VLIZ North Sea Award by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) in Belgium, which annually awards only one innovative scientific contribution on the structure and functioning of the North Sea ecosystem from a number of submissions by scientists from all North Sea neighboring countries.
