TORONTO - The federal government says it's sick of waiting for Ontario to sign a deal on rural infrastructure projects, so it's going ahead with its plans without the province.
Environment Minister John Baird visited the eastern Ontario community of Merrickville to announce $2 million in funding to help build a new sewage treatment plant.
Baird says Ontario is the only province that hasn't signed onto the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund and is missing out on $64 million in funding.
He accuses Premier Dalton McGuinty of wasting time and playing politics instead of securing federal funding for his province.
Baird is no stranger to sparring with McGuinty, who was Liberal Opposition leader when Baird was a cabinet minister in the Conservative government of former premier Mike Harris.
Baird says the $2 million available to Merrickville for a new sewage plant is contingent on the province or another partner matching the money.
