EASTERN ILLINOIS

News exhibit on campus this month

CHARLESTON – A series of events that explore news coverage will be presented by Booth Library and the Eastern Illinois University Department of Journalism this month.

Activities center around the national traveling exhibition, “Breaking News: How the Associated Press Has Covered War, Peace and Everything Else,” based on a book of the same name. Exhibition panels cover wars, trials, aviation, sports, civil rights, foreign correspondents, disasters, the White House and AP staff members.

“Many of the AP photographs are instantly recognizable and conjure memories of where you were on that date and time,” said Allen Lanham, dean of Booth Library.

The exhibition is in the library’s Marvin Foyer (north entrance) through Feb. 29. Other programs related to the news-gathering process also are planned. All are free.

ILLINOIS STATE

Mennonite to offer nursing doctorates

NORMAL – Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University will offer classes this fall toward its newly approved doctorate in nursing. The program’s research focus is on caring for older adults.

Doctoral students must complete a 66-hour program. It targets practicing nurses who already have master’s degrees in nursing. Such a student should be able to complete the program in two to three years, with an additional one to two years required to complete the dissertation.

The ISU program will prepare nurses with expertise to conduct research in patient care and outcomes, teach nursing, lead in health policy development, and develop models of care for vulnerable populations.

Before developing the new program, Mennonite College of Nursing received a three-year federal grant in 2005 from the Health Resources and Services Administration to establish a collaborative doctoral program with the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing.
