WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Creating sustainable communities through environmentally conscious development is the focus of the Urban Land Institute’s “Developing and Investing Green: Creating Value through Sustainability” conference, set for April 7-8, 2008 in Charlotte, N.C.

The fourth annual event, which will be held in the Charlotte Convention Center, will explore all aspects of green development, including issues related to the availability of real estate capital; best practices in green building; how government mandates will affect the industry; upfront and long-term costs and benefits; and differences between various certification programs.

According to Richard Rosan, president, ULI Worldwide, a key priority for the Institute is to advance development practices that achieve long-term sustainability from an economic, social and environmental standpoint. The upcoming ULI conference “underscores the Institute’s long-standing commitment to sustainable land use and reinforces our efforts to highlight efficient land use as a way to mitigate climate change,” Rosan said.

“The impact of development on the environment encompasses a broad array of issues, from building in a way to cut carbon gas emissions to implementing sustainable development models. This conference will offer new insights on these issues, leaving attendees better informed and better prepared to operate in the world of sustainable community building.”

The conference is being chaired by Jonathan F.P. Rose, president of Jonathan Rose Companies LLC, a multi-disciplinary planning and development firm in New York City. Rose’s companies have created economically successful models of environmentally and socially responsible real estate across the United States.

Rogers, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy in Charlotte, is the opening keynote speaker for the conference, headlining an impressive lineup of experts in sustainable design, development and investment.
