LAKE FOREST, Ill., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following media advisory is being issued by Lake Forest Country Day School:
WHAT: As part of the Lake Forest Country Day School's educational speakers program, the renowned pediatrician, research scientist and director of the Center on Media and Child Health, Dr. Michael Rich, will address the effects of entertainment media on the physical, mental and social effects of children and adolescents. His presentation is titled "Keeping Children Healthy and Safe in the Information Age."
WHY: According to Dr. Rich, of Harvard University and Boston Children's Hospital, there is mounting scientific evidence that exposure to entertainment media can contribute to a child's risk of anxiety disorders, sleep disturbances, attention deficits, violent behavior, eating disorders, substance abuse and obesity. However, there is also supporting evidence that media can teach children and expand their worlds.
Dr. Rich will offer constructive solutions and approaches that children and families can use to protect themselves against negative effects while also using media in a thoughtful way to improve their lives. This evidence-based presentation is open to parents, grandparents, educators and all who care about children and their well-being.
