Scholarship: The Rhode Island School Psychologists Association recently awarded its fourth annual minority scholarships.
Scholarships of $1,000, awarded to graduate students in a school psychology program, were given to Morayo Sayles of Smithfield and Marilene B. DeJesus of Medford, Mass. Both are students at Rhode Island College.

Ball: The Cape Verdean Progressive Center, 329 Grosvenor Ave., East Providence, will hold an inaugural ball in honor of Elaine Moniz Gonsalves, its first female president in 50 years, on Sunday, March 9 at the Venus de Milo, 75 Grand Army Highway, Swansea.
A cocktail hour at 6 p.m. will be followed by dinner and dancing from 7 to midnight.
Music will be provided by the Laurendo DaGracas Band, Ivo Pires and D.J. Clayton.
