Egypt aims to achieve 4 percent annual agricultural growth rate
CAIRO, March 1 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Minister of Agriculture andLand Reclamation Amin Abbaza on Saturday expounded his country’s agricultural development strategy to achieve an annual growth rateof four percent.
Abbaza made the remarks at the opening session of experts’ talks of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)29th Regional Conference for the Near East, saying that Egypt is to make the optimum use of available resources of lands, water, capital and technologies to reach the goal.
Egypt aims to attain food security by increasing agricultural production, which will provide raw agricultural material needed for its national industries, the Egyptian top agricultural official noted.
He also expressed Egypt’s intention to increase its agricultural exports, generate job opportunities in the rural areas and improve the living standards of farmers.
The five-day meeting tackles on food security and agricultural development in the region. The ministerial-level talks are expected to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
