Science Products Help Educators Address Standards Requirements

PLATO Learning released two new science products, PLATO Physical Science and PLATO Multimedia Science Simulations, that will help secondary school educators address standards-based science requirements and help students develop an appreciation for scientific discovery.
PLATO Physical Science is a standards-based curriculum that uses computer animation and multimedia instruction to address scientific concepts at the middle school level. It can be used as a self-study tool in classroom or credit recovery programs as well as for teacher presentations, test reviews, a supplement to GED instruction, and a complement to textbook material. Each lesson is aligned to state standards and the guidelines set by the National Science Foundation, the Mid-Continent Research for Education and Learning (MCREL) lab, and the AAAS Project 2061. The curriculum also features a test item bank that links exam questions to specific standards-based objectives for pretesting and mastery assessments.
PLATO Multimedia Science Simulations provides an alternative to in-class lab experiments-which can be costly, unpredictable, and time consuming-and allows teachers to expand the scientific concepts that students are exposed to. PLATO Multimedia Science Simulations was developed by experienced science teachers and supports both classroom teaching and individual study. The program allows students to develop a deeper understanding of science by visualizing such concepts as the regulation of blood sugar levels; how oxygen passes through the lungs into our blood and muscles; what happens inside a spectrometer; and how forces change as a cyclist reaches terminal velocity.
Each lesson provides students access to tools that include motion graphs and spectrometers with worksheets, teachers' notes, integrated tutorial lessons, and study guides. For more information on PLATO Physical Science and PLATO Multimedia Science Simulations, visit www.plato.com.
